In 2021, Aboitiz Construction, Inc. (ACI) implemented its ‘Big Shift Strategy’ as a significant business pivot in order to maneuver in a new market environment. The company reset itself by strengthening its financial performance, revamping critical processes and systems, and investing in organization and talent capability.
Aboitiz Construction achieved its business recovery goals last year. It provided thousands of jobs nationwide, contributing to the economy and elevating its social value in communities where it operated.
As the company celebrates 46 solid years in the construction industry, it is poised to further grow and fulfill its vision of becoming a premier construction company that is committed to advance business and communities.
“2021 is our recovery period and through teamwork, we became stronger and steadfast. As we drive towards expanding operations and setting a national footprint, we have started to implement programs that will continue this momentum through 2022,” said Aboitiz Construction Chairman and President Anton Mari G. Perdices.
2021 Operations and Portfolio
To secure financial gain, Aboitiz Construction balanced its project portfolio and diversified its technical capabilities, creating a wide array of construction projects nationwide. The company is now focused on heavy and light industries, infrastructure, and maintenance and manpower services.
Under the heavy industries, Aboitiz Construction helped improve the operations of the 105-MW Sarangani Energy Corporation’s thermal power plant through the completion of maintenance and shutdown works. The project will contribute enough power supply to the areas in Mindanao. Another milestone was the completion of the construction of CD Processing (CDP) Ltd.’s copper ore sorting and processing plant in Toledo City, Cebu. The new facility will manage mining wastes efficiently.
In the first half of 2021, the company also completed the civil works for the expansion of a fuel storage facility in Subic, Zambales and finished construction works for a local manufacturer and distributor of high-grade oleochemicals in Misamis Oriental.
For infrastructure, it contributed to the efficient logistics of agricultural and commercial products through the design and construction of Berth 4 for Davao International Container Terminal in Panabo City, Davao del Norte. In November 2021, the operations to construct transmission lines that will supply power to businesses located in Light Industry Science Park (LISP 4) and residentials areas in Pueblo de Oro in Malvar, Batangas commenced.
In addition, Aboitiz Construction completed the fabrication and installation works for the 20-tons pillars of Austal Philippines’ FSTR, the largest aluminum vessel in the Philippines.
Reinforcing its commitment to advancing business and communities, Aboitiz Construction generated 1,730 jobs through all its projects nationwide in 2021.
2022 Look Ahead
Aboitiz Construction expanded its portfolio in infrastructure after bagging a deal to design and build an additional overhead transmission line project for Lima Enerzone, a distribution company under AboitizPower. It also received an award for the construction of a water infrastructure project for Lima Land, Inc. in Batangas. Most recently, it confirmed the construction of a warehouse for Therma Visayas, Inc. in Toledo City. These projects are expected to be completed in 2022.
Under its light industries belt, the company has started the construction of a 26,000-square-meter- warehouse and office buildings in Paranaque City. It is by far the largest warehouse facility of the logistics giant. Another big ticket project that is expected to be completed this year is the construction of a 6,000-square-meter warehouse for a local food company in Iloilo City.
The Aboitiz Construction team draws pride in commencing newly awarded projects such as the site-development for Lima Land, Inc. in Batangas and a pipeline project for a fuel storage facility in Zambales.
It will further expand into water and transportation infrastructure, projects for ready-built factories, and maintenance services. “In line with our vision to solidify our national footprint, we are also expanding our portfolio and continuously looking for better ways to help in building a better future for a better Philippines,” said Levi Agoncillo, Aboitiz Construction’s Vice President for Business Development, Tender Planning, Engineering, and Design.
With successful construction projects from last year and an expanded portfolio this year, Aboitiz Construction is on its way towards growth and a strong performance close in 2022.
